Loose Women chaos as two show legends are embroiled in row 'over contracts'

As temperatures have dropped in recent weeks, many of us will likely have our heating on for longer, which coupled with the energy price cap rise in January, means our bills will be higher.

But some new bank payments are on their way to thousands of households designed to specifically help beat the rising winter costs, such as cold weather payments and the Warm Home Discount.

How to stay warm this winter for less

STAYING toasty this winter shouldn't cost an arm and a leg as there's plenty of amazing alternatives to wacking up the radiators and spending money on rising heating bills.

Look at getting yourself a hot water bottle to keep you warm and you can get them in lots of different shapes and sizes to fit any type of person.

They are always great for a cost-free way of keeping warm as you only need hot water.

But if you've got a few pennies to spare and want to invest in a long-term solution to the cold consider buying an electric blanket.

They're another great way to keep warm and most cost around 2p an hour to run.

Don't forget about preventative measures though.

Look at draught-proofing your home and sealing your windows to stop cold air from coming in.

Prices for draught excludes start from a fiver in most stores but a thick blanket rolled up next to a problematic door will work just as well.

Seal up any draughty windows with easy-to-use draught excluders, prices for them start at £1.99 and they could save up to £70 on your energy bills.

Loft insulation is also very important as it can stop heat escaping, therefore slashing your heating bill.

You can buy insulation from all local builder merchants or retailers such as B&Q and Wickes.

The Sun asked home insulation and heating expert and LoftZone chief executive Dave Raval for advice about keep energy bills low and house temperatures high.

Dave said: "There are lots of things everybody could do in their own homes that are quite easy and inexpensive to help save on your heating bills.

"The best energy saving is the energy you don’t use, so looking at where heat may be escaping is key!"
